The Utah minimum wage increases from $6.55 to $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009, reflecting an increase in the federal minimum wage. As required by law, the Utah Labor Commissioner adopts the federal rate in an administrative action. Utah has no break law and no family leave law or anti-discrimination law at the state level, although many employees are covered by federal laws. Utah employers are permitted to make deductions to employee’s wages for shortages, cash advances and items purchased with the employee’s written permission. Employees can be required to pay a refundable deposit on work uniforms supplied by the employer.*
