The 2009 Oregon minimum wage is $8.40 per hour, the second highest in the nation. It increases annually on January 1, based on the cost of living. The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry or BOLI has issued new regulations that clarify the states complex meal and rest break laws. A new law regarding meetings in the workplace prohibits employers from mandating employee attendance at meetings involving the employer’s opinions on religious or political matters. It also prohibits employers from taking any adverse employment action against an employee who refuses to attend such meetings. The law will become effective on January 1, 2010.*
