North Dakota ( ND ) Labor Law Quick Facts:
The North Dakota minimum wage increases from $6.55 to $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009. There is no state law requiring employers to give short rest breaks. However, any breaks less than 30 minutes must be paid. Employers are required to give a 30-minute uninterrupted meal break to employees who work a shift of 5 hours or more. The meal break may be unpaid, and applies only if there are two or more employees on duty. An employer can require that North Dakota employees purchase uniforms through a payroll deduction, provided the employee agrees in writing and the deduction does not reduce the employee’s hourly rate below the minimum wage.*
