New York ( NY ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

Effective July 24, 2009 the New York minimum wage increases from $7.15 per hour to $7.25 per hour, to match the new federal minimum wage. The New York minimum wage law excludes ministers, non-profit volunteers, part-time babysitters and students in a recognized work-study program. By law, employers must notify employees in writing by posting notices of company policies regarding any fringe benefits, to include vacation, sick leave, personal leave, holidays and hours. New York has the most complex meal break laws in the nation, with nearly every employee entitled to a meal break of 30 minutes to one hour, depending upon industry, length of shift and time of day.*
