Effective October 1, 2009 the Maine minimum wage will increase by 25 cents, from $7.25 per hour to $7.50 per hour. Maine is one of the most pro-employee states, with 5 new bills passed in the 2008-2009 legislative session, including one that severely limits employment at will. The Maine family leave law permits employees to take time off to care for a sibling with a serious health condition, as well as a parent, spouse, son or daughter. Employers cannot charge employees for uniforms, personal protective equipment or tools. Any shirt with a company logo is considered a uniform.*
