Illinois ( IL ) Labor Law Quick Facts:
On July 1, 2009, the Illinois minimum wage increased from $7.75 to $8.00 per hour. The new minimum wage for Illinois tipped employees is $4.80 per hour. Employees may be paid a training wage of $7.50 per hour for the first 90 days with a new employer. State law permits employees under the age of 18 to be paid a minimum wage of $7.50 per hour, or $4.50 per hour for tipped employees. The next Illinois minimum wage increase will occur on July 1, 2010. Both state and federal law require that employees be paid overtime after working 40 hours in the payroll week.*
